This pattern has been in continuous production since 1816, and is undoubtedly one of the all-time classic tableware patterns. The central scene is thought to be of ruins in Italy and is framed by an Imari border inspired by Chinese porcelain. Packaged in the new Blue packaging. Makes a great gift for family and friends.Blue Italian has captivated consumers and collectors alike ever since its introduction in 1816. This 11-inch-wide, nearly flat cake plate displays a classical Italian scene of Roman ruins and pastoral landscape in all its full glory, rendered in blue using Spode's famous underglaze printing. The floral border is copied directly from 18th-century Chinese porcelain. As an accessory to Blue Italian dinnerware, the cake plate makes an exceptional gift.
The footed cake plate nobly displays an eight- or nine-inch round cake by elevating it nearly three inches off the table. Made in England of Spode's highest-quality earthenware known as Imperialware, Blue Italian is safe for the dishwasher and microwave, a boon whether the cake plate is used twice a week or saved for formal desserts.
